Using real-world datasets such as PLATEAU, participants will build a digital twin by integrating 3D city models, point clouds, and vector data. Through hands-on exercises with Cesium and 3D Tiles, attendees will learn visualization, styling, attribute exploration, and basic spatial analysis in a web-based 3D environment.
Japan has made a wide range of high-quality geospatial datasets publicly available, including PLATEAU 3D city models and other open geospatial data. However, integrating and effectively utilizing different types of geospatial data—such as 3D city models, point clouds, and vector data—remains a challenge.
In this workshop, participants will learn a practical workflow for visualizing and analyzing these datasets within a common 3D environment using Cesium and OGC 3D Tiles.
Through hands-on exercises, participants will explore:
• Visualizing and navigating 3D city models based on PLATEAU
• Working with point cloud datasets and their attributes
• Overlaying and styling vector datasets
• Attribute-driven filtering and basic spatial analysis
Participants will gain practical experience combining multiple geospatial data types in a unified 3D environment and learn how these workflows can be applied to digital twins, disaster management, urban planning, and infrastructure management.
The workshop will also provide an overview of the latest developments in 3D Tiles 2.0, including emerging workflows for vector data and point cloud integration, as well as recent trends in web-based 3D GIS and digital twin technologies.

No prior Cesium experience is required. Participants should bring a laptop with a modern web browser. A basic understanding of GIS or geospatial data concepts is helpful, but not required.

Gen Kukita leads Cesium’s community activities in Japan. He works closely with the PLATEAU community, open-source GIS communities, universities, research organizations, government agencies, and industry partners to promote 3D geospatial technologies and digital twin adoption.
He is actively involved in organizing developer workshops, community events, and technical outreach programs, helping bridge Japanese open geospatial initiatives with the global 3D geospatial ecosystem.
As the Senior Director of Open Standards at Cesium, Amanda pursues the development and ratification of open standards with international Standards Development Organizations. Amanda believes strongly in the openness that standards enable, positioning organizations to thrive through interoperability and alignment. She is responsible for Cesium’s standards roadmap, collaborating with industry leaders, engaging with development teams, and facilitating standards partnerships.
Khanh Hoang is an Application Engineer at Bentley Systems Japan. After graduating from Gifu University, he worked for a heavy industry company in Japan for five years before joining Bentley Systems in 2021.
In his current role, he provides technical support for digital twin solutions, helping customers leverage digital technologies to improve the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure assets.
