DESCRIPTION:The presentation will cover experiments with styling a Swiss to
pographic map based on data from the 'Swiss Map Vector 25' dataset.\n\nThe
presentation discusses and demonstrates styling\, symbology and labelling
topics\, such as\n- using units for either print or screen maps\n- fixed
reference scale (important primarily for print maps)\n- the use of data-de
fined properties and expressions\n- styling roads and trails with multiple
symbol layers and advanced dashing\n- splitting up layers according to dr
awing levels (e.g. buildings below or above railways or cable cars)\n- org
anising layers: flat layer drawing order list vs. thematic organisation in
layer tree\n- point and area symbology tricks (e.g. advanced hachures (li
ne pattern fills) that follow orientation of geometries)\n- advanced label
ling with manual or automatic labelling placement\, labelling rules and da
ta-defined expressions\n- selective masking to better distinguish labels f
rom darker geometry symbols in their background\n- terrain representation
(hillshading\, rock drawing and contour lines)\n\nThe presentation will al
so discuss missing symbology features that\, if implemented\, would help t
o better style topographic maps\, especially in the alpine regions with a
 lot of rocky areas.
