Mapping the Future of Informal Sports: Data-Driven Solutions with QGIS
06-03, 13:30–14:00 (Europe/Stockholm), Statisten

How much space do we need for informal sports, and where? This talk presents a QGIS-powered workflow to calculate and visualize the spatial demand for informal sports activities—broken down by sport type—based on population data. By overlaying existing sports facilities, the analysis identifies gaps and highlights where new infrastructure is needed. The approach can be applied beyond sports, offering insights for any provision area that depends on population density and proximity. This presentation aims to demonstrate how data-driven mapping with QGIS can simplify and enhance urban planning processes.
