What is Pista ng Mapa?

Pista ng Mapa (Filipino for Festival of Maps) is the pioneer and premier free (as to cost and as in freedom) open mapping and open geospatial conference in the Philippines. It is 100% volunteer-driven—made by and for our local open mapping and open geospatial communities—and traces its roots back to past FOSS4G Philippines events (since 2012), Maptime Diliman meetups (since 2015), and local OpenStreetMap activities (since late 2000s.

Since the first Pista in 2019, it has brought together countless participants from different backgrounds to celebrate open source, open data, and open geospatial and have inspired new members to join, help, or start their own communities.

Pista ng Mapa 2023

Join us in celebrating Pista ng Mapa on November 21-23, 2023. This year's conference holds special significance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the devastating effects of Super Typhoon Yolanda, more commonly known internationally as Super Typhoon Haiyan—one of the most powerful and destructive typhoons in human history responsible for the loss of countless lives and damage to property. During that time, open mapping and open geospatial tools played a crucial role in rescue and relief efforts and have subsequently evolved into indispensable resources for disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and climate action initiatives.

Pista ng Mapa 2023 presents a valuable opportunity for local, regional, and international communities to come together, reflect, collaborate, and look forward to the potential of ogen geospatial particularly in the fields of disaster management and climate change and, as part of our commemoration, we are holding the Pista in one of the cities most affected by ST Haiyan back in 2013—the beautiful city of Tacloban in the province of Leyte.
