Met meer dan 20 jaar ervaring als fysisch geograaf gespecialiseerd in GIS en Remote Sensing ben ik momenteel Associate Professor Open Science en Digitale Innovatie aan het IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. Daarnaast bied ik consultancy, training en coaching aan in open source GIS via mijn bedrijf, QWAST.
Ik ben een actief lid van de QGIS-gemeenschap, een gecertificeerde QGIS-trainer en medeoprichter/bestuurslid van de Nederlandse QGIS-gebruikersgroep. Ik heb het GIS OpenCourseWare-platform opgezet, dat gratis cursusmateriaal biedt over QGIS, Python, Mergin Maps, Google Earth Engine en meer. Ook heb ik de PCRaster Tools-plugin voor QGIS ontwikkeld, die meer dan 70.000 keer is gedownload. Daarnaast ben ik mede-auteur van het boek QGIS for Hydrological Applications en beheer ik een YouTube-kanaal met meer dan 30.000 abonnees. Als lid van QCooperative ben ik goed verbonden met de beste ontwikkelaars van open source GIS.
