DESCRIPTION:Offshore wind is a key player in our fight against climate chan
ge\, but can it also deliver wins for the environment? Here I explore how
the use of multi-criteria spatial heatmap analysis in GIS can support the
development of offshore Artificial Nesting Structures (ANS) as a strategic
compensatory measure for auk species\, to aid delivery of offshore wind p
rojects. By combining ecological\, engineering and consent risk datasets\,
the methodology provides a practical framework for site selection that ca
n also be applied across a range of planning and design challenges. The ou
tcome of the study identified key areas where an offshore ANS for auk spec
ies could feasibly be constructed\, alongside providing further evidence t
 o bridge known data gaps.
