QGIS to Static Raster Tiles
10-18, 12:00– (Pacific/Auckland), Te Iringa

Updated stack and methodology for transforming zoom based QGIS projects into pre-rendered raster tiles for the web. Presentation uses a real world use case study (SWA Flood Mapping Project), introduces rasterio for multi-core processing, and the incorporates coverages to reduce tile cache sizes.

In 2022, I presented on a project to transform zoom based QGIS projects into COG tiles, demonstrating a proof of concept for the replacement for the TileMill to MbTile stack. In 2023, I’ve updated the stack and method to develop more practical outputs in the form of raster tiles making the method viable to a wider audience . The updated presentation introduces a real world use case (SWA Flood Mapping Project), introduction of rasterio for multi-core processing, and the incorporation of coverages to reduce tile cache sizes. In addition, we will be opening up the Github repository for public access and comment.
