Monroe Community College used field data collection tools and QGIS to support the reforestation efforts of Saving Africa’s Nature in Tanzania (SANA).
Through a combination of two student virtual internships, and an in person visit, Monroe Community College (State University of New York) used field data collection tools and QGIS to support reforestation the efforts of Saving Africa’s Nature in Tanzania (SANA). Using the free version of Mergin Maps, a student developed an app to support ground-truthing efforts to monitor land cover change to support elephant corridors. Professor Little travelled to Dar es Salaam and then to the Gongo Village (Summer of 2023) to work with SANA. He finalized the student-developed mapping app for use in the field, made on-the-ground modifications, and trained locals on the use of the app.
