An overview of the GNSS-IR technique, and a discussion on the deployment of a low-cost, Raspberry Pi-based GNSS-IR system for field-scale soil moisture monitoring.
Can multipath be useful? An emerging measurement technique known as "GNSS Interferometric Reflectometry" turns this common source of positioning error into an environmental sensor.
Our Raspberry-Pi based system was successfully deployed at Warkworth Space Center, New Zealand, in May 2025, where it is being used to validate data from the Rongowai and NASA CYGNSS sensing systems. The project demonstrates how cutting-edge geodesy research can be achieved through relatively simple application of open-source software packages.
