The Open Data Cube is a big, complicated tool that does a lot of things, and it's a little old. It's been replaced with a small complicated tool, which does less things more simply, which is great. This is a talk about that.
For years, the Open Data Cube has been the go-to framework for managing massive collections of satellite imagery. But with changing cloud-native practices, new open standards, and better APIs, there’s a simpler way forward.
In this talk, Alex Leith, Executive Director at Auspatious, explains how the heavy Postgres-driven ODC tool is being replaced by flexible, open STAC APIs and elegant Python tools like pystac-client and odc-stac.
The result? A leaner, easier way to discover and analyze EO data, with just a few lines of code. Long live the Open Data Cube.
